FAQ ON BECOMING A SPORTING MEMBER

A sporting membership gives you and your family full access to Hong Kong Cricket Club with all of the full benefits and reciprocal rights it has to offer. Our world class sporting facilities and beautiful club means you will be set up for success in your sport, but becoming a member is also about the broader social benefits to you, your family and your friends. Our netball community is based on values of friendliness, mutual respect and pride in our club, and we welcome new members who embody those values with us.

In return we also expect all of our sporting members to give back to the sport and to the club, not just by playing your sport, but also showing up for your team and other member activities. That means we expect a minimum commitment of 4 years of being present for at least 80% of your games and training sessions. During netball season that is at least two nights per week where you will be playing or training.

In addition we expect sporting members to give back to the sport in a variety of ways. This can be in the form of volunteering additional time through offering to captain your team, becoming a coach to seniors or juniors, taking steps to become a qualified umpire. You can also get involved in committee tasks such as arranging social events or fund raising, or helping run fitness or wellness clinics at the club. There are so many ways you can be involved and give back to the sport and we ultimately want members who are highly engaged.

The first step is to attend trials in August and show us how you play. If you are successful in being selected the committee will inform you within two weeks of trials taking place and invite you to apply for a sporting membership. It is not uncommon for new prospects to start training or playing in a team before your membership with HKCC is fully processed, which can take up to eight weeks depending on the number of new sporting applications that need to be processed. In this instance an existing member from the committee, or the captain of your team will guide you through the process and be able to sign you into the club for team meetings or training sessions. Simultaneously new prospects submit their sporting membership application and the committee advocates for you with the Hong Kong Cricket Club management and processes your registration with Hong Kong Netball Association. Each year new members are invited to the club to meet the management team and have their membership signed off by sporting committee members. After this process has taken place new members are issued with membership numbers giving them full access to the clubs facilities and broader benefits. You receive your membership card by post shortly thereafter.
Member fees for 2023/2024 are HK$20,000 for a one-off joining charge, plus $1890/month. These costs are subject to change.

We give first preference to all new sporting members who prioritise the trial date and make the commitment to show up. The popularity of our club means we have a limited sporting memberships and we have to run a fair and transparent process. If you miss the trial date its unlikely we would make an exception for individuals in round one of the season. In some rare instances some of our teams may have vacancies due to multiple injuries or movements within teams so if a spot becomes available, and you are an experienced player we may be able to slot you into a team mid-season. For all new members its best that you do your very best to prioritise the netball trial dates.
The popularity and depth of talent in our existing membership means that we are limited in how many sporting memberships we can provide in each new season. We do our very best to run an inclusive process and provide opportunities for all levels. If you are not successful in your first trial that does not preclude you from future trials. Each year its about making sure we have a broad range of players in each division and filling the right gaps in each team so we are competitive at all levels. We keep your details on file and if vacancies come up in a team and you have the right competencies we may call you back. But if you don’t succeed the first year please come back and try out again as its not always about the best players, its more about finding the right players with the right positions for the right teams.
